Asia

Asia remains a fascinating place. It is such a diverse, interesting and vast continent. And Asian culture, which dates back several millennia, is palpable almost everywhere. Between 1987 and now, I’ve had quite a few times the chance to travel around and see something of the continent. Either on my own, with my travelling companions Barbara or Brigitte, or with my wife. And we’re far from finished!

Most Asian countries are developing rapidly, often at an incredible pace. Usually, these countries have been waiting for decades for an opportunity to make a giant leap forward. Once the development process really gets going, they don’t give up. This is particularly true of South-East Asia and India. Only in countries like Pakistan does development seem to have stalled. It’s a shame, because the Pakistanis are so nice and friendly.

Travelling through Asia is usually very relaxed. We’ve tried almost every mode of transport. Public transport in all its forms, car and motorbike hire, and on a few occasions, we’ve hired a car with a driver for a couple of weeks. If you want to organize a trip yourself, Asia is ideal for that. In the good old days, travelers usually did so based on information in the “Lonely Planet” guide covering the area they were visiting. Nowadays, it is very easy and convenient to plan your trip and book transport and accommodation online.

Ultimately, I hope to make all Asia trips available on this website. And to give visitors an overview of around 40 years of travelling across the continent. But for now, a few trips are already online. You will find the relevant links below.
