In almost every former British colony, you can find a historic hotel. Just think of the Taj Mahal Hotel in Bombay (Mumbai), the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, or the slightly lesser-known Hotel Swisse in Kandy (Sri Lanka).
And, of course, the former Rangoon also has ‘its’ hotel. That is the Strand Hotel.
There’s always a wonderful atmosphere in a hotel like this. With a little imagination, you can picture well-dressed ladies and gentlemen on their way to the restaurant or the ballroom. But you don’t have to stay there to enjoy the atmosphere.
Just order something at the bar or in the lobby. Whilst Brigitte is enjoying her beloved coffee, Bert tries the local beer. Mandalay, ‘made in Myanmar’. Delicious!
